The Spider’s Web

“For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow. Shall not they teach thee and tell thee and utter words out of their heart?  Can the rush grow up without mire? And the flag grow without water? Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.  So are the paths of all that forget God; and hypocrites hope shall perish: whose hope shall be[...]

Flames of Fire

Posted by Vicki Hawkins On August - 23 - 2010 3 Comments

This week we are going to look at an enormous topic, “fire”, and see if the Lord won’t step in here and help us to “glean” some truths relevant for the day in which we find ourselves.  A cursory look at all the fire scriptures throughout the Bible shows a 2 sided picture, a double-edged sword, so-to-speak.  In Gen. 19:24 “The Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven.”  I have heard[...]

Conversion of a Tare

Posted by Vicki Hawkins On August - 16 - 2010 3 Comments

Last week we discussed wheat and tares. The world is full of them and it would be easy to judge. However, the amazing thing about this entire subject is that it is possible for the Lord to convert a tare. In the natural this is impossible – certainly a tare (bad) seed can not be transformed into a wheat seed. In other words, “It is what it is.” But here is where the miracle of transformation takes place in the[...]

Wheat and Tares

Posted by Vicki Hawkins On August - 9 - 2010 1 Comment

The Lord has given me a message about wheat and tares.  I know writing this has helped me to examine my own heart, and I pray the Lord will anoint this attempt to express what I believe the Lord has shown. The apostle Matthew tells us more about the Kingdom of Heaven than any other disciple.  How many times have we read about the parable of the sower who went out to sow in his field and afterward the enemy[...]

Rahab and the Scarlet Cord

Posted by Vicki Hawkins On August - 2 - 2010 4 Comments

I was recently reading in Joshua how Jericho was the very first city conquered after crossing the Jordan River.  Jericho was a well fortified, economically bustling city, but much like Sodom was destined for destruction.  The houses were packed clear to the city wall for that is where we are first introduced to Rahab, the “harlot”.  Two spies were sent to Jericho, “And they went, and came into a harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there”. (Joshua 2:1)   This woman of ill-repute lived on[...]

God of the Mountains – God of the Valley

Posted by Vicki Hawkins On July - 29 - 2010 3 Comments

I returned yesterday from a short but sweet trip to the Iglesia Apostolica church in San Jose, Costa Rica.  My heart is knit with these people, and I’ve learned so much by observing how much they enjoy living for the Lord.  Despite what we might consider limited material resources, they are totally dependent on the Lord as Provider.  Because of their dependence on Him, each day is a new adventure and their awareness of the Lord’s delight in His people[...]

Purpose Driven Life?

Posted by Vicki Hawkins On July - 18 - 2010 1 Comment

In this day we hear and read a lot about purpose.  It seems many are floundering in this life.  If they could just find their purpose they would feel anchored somehow and not tossed with the wind.  There has been a very materialistic trend in this world to mass produce material that appeals to a niche need in every person.   People need to feel significant – that their life means something.  However, we don’t need a purpose driven life, we[...]

Time to get out of the boat

Posted by Vicki Hawkins On July - 12 - 2010 0 Comment

What must the disciples have felt while they watched Peter step out of the boat and begin a journey of faith and obedience towards the Master? We have heard a lot about Peter’s initial bravado.  He knew Jesus’ voice.  While the other disciples were still trembling in the boat for fear it was a spirit approaching, Peter cast off all fear and simply stepped out in faith.  Then the thunder and lightening frightened him and he fell.  The weather distraction[...]

Upcoming trip to Costa Rica

Posted by Vicki Hawkins On July - 6 - 2010 0 Comment

I’m getting ready for a return trip to Costa Rica.  Always love being with those sweet people.  I’m trying to relearn Spanish because I know I’ve picked up a lot of bad habits as I’ve struggled with the language.  It reminds me of weeding a garden and how often, as we grow in the Lord, some unneeded thought patterns and perceptions may develop and we can get locked into a rigid way of thinking when the Lord is saying “Hey,[...]
