Last night as I was driving home from babysitting the twins the moon seemed so close as if one could reach up and touch it. For whatever atmospheric reasons the moon appeared to be orange. Even on the highway people were distracted by its unusual appearance and cars were slowing down. I was reminded of Joel chapter 2 verse 30.
“And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come.”
The day of the Lord is on the horizon and will be a day of darkness and gloominess, because it will be the beginning of God’s gravest judgment on this Christ rejecting world. However, Beloved, we are in the last precious moments of the Day of Grace. There are a few more particles of sand to sift through the hourglass. These are the souls for whom our Lord Jesus shed His blood. There is still time to repent, turn from sin and turn to God. There is still time to be filled with the Holy Ghost and have our sins washed away in water baptism in the name of Jesus. But time as we know it is running out.
“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my Spirit.” Joel 2:28, 39
As I read this scripture I noticed something I hadn’t seen before. Joel says that the Holy Ghost will be poured out on servants and handmaids in those days. Servants and handmaids are the humblest of people and perhaps unnoticed by others. Handmaids in scripture referred to devoted servants who did the bid and call of their masters. The maid of Naaman the Leper was never mentioned by name and yet she led her master to Elijah the Prophet and how he could be healed from his leprosy. All souls are known to God and there is no part of the world remote to Him nor person too far removed from hearing the gospel (good news). The Lord knows who are His and who will call upon Him in sincerity and truth.
I was reminded of our trip to Costa Rica in July where we held a service and distributed supplies and gifts to the indigenous people who live in the mountains. I prepared this short 5 minute video clip as a reminder that the Lord’s hand is not too short that He cannot save and reach the hungry and the thirsty.
