“And let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.” Genesis 1:14, 15
“And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.” Genesis 1:16
I’ve always heard that the moon has no light of its own but only reflects the light of the sun, but according to this scripture God created both planets as lights. It would appear from verse 15 that these lights were created for the very purpose of bringing light to the earth. It was after the creation of the sun and the moon that the stars were formed. Heaven is the Lord’s throne and the earth is His footstool. The earth is where the Lord is walking today through the power of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is given freely to all who repent of their sins and turn to God. When someone receives the Holy Ghost they are no longer full of darkness but now are full of light, as electricity causes a light bulb to emit light.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” John 1:1-5
Jesus Christ is the Light of the world and has been from the beginning. He is not one of three persons or a lesser light – He is the only light.
Light rules over the darkness. The greater light (the sun) rules over the day and the lesser light (the moon) rules over the night. So any way you look at it light “rules” over everything.
In the simplicity of this message I hope you will grasp the greater spiritual truth. We need never feel overwhelmed by the darkness because the true light of heaven “JESUS” rules over all.
“For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people but the LORD shall arise upon thee and His glory shall be seen upon thee.” Isaiah 60:2
Yes, gross darkness has descended upon the earth like a thick cloud as sin and wickedness has increased. Yet in the midst of this earth there is a glorious and triumphant Church. Brother Flowers preached a powerful message this morning at Emmanuel Pentecostal on the Bride of Christ who is resplendent in holiness. She has studied, prayed, yielded to the Lord and those He has placed in authority over her. It is through many trials and testings that the Church of the Living God is being transformed into His likeness.
Today is the day for the Church to shine as a “city set upon a hill” so that the perishing can be drawn to the warmth of God’s love and mercy.
There is an old song written by R.E. Winsett that is called In the City Where the Lamb is the Light. One chorus fits beautifully with this message.
“There’s a country far beyond the starry sky. There’s a city where there never comes a night; if we’re faithful we shall go there by and by. ‘Tis the city where the Lamb is the Light.
In that city where the Lamb is the Light (beautiful light). The city where there cometh no night (no more night): I’ve a mansion over there. And when free from toil and care I am going where the Lamb is the Light.”
