Cantares“What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus; What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”

This refrain from an old hymn has been going over and over in my mind.  Then today at Emmanuel Pentecostal Bro. Hawkins delivered a powerful message in the Spanish service on “la sangre preciosa de Cristo..” (I Peter 1:19)   Afterwards when Bro. Flowers began to speak on the power of the blood of Jesus to cleanse sin in the main worship service, I knew the Lord was speaking very clearly to His people.

The www (world wide web) is just that.  People are able to connect with websites just by typing a single word into the search engine.  Jesus Wept Ministries typically gets over 120 visitors a day.  A year ago when we first started posting a weekly blog we might get 20 visitors a day.  Many of our visitors come from all around the world.  We pray daily for anyone who takes the time to visit our site.

Today in church I was wondering how many people would type in the word “blood” in the search engine?  Blood is not a very popular subject.  It seems as I get older every time I go to the doctor they want to check my blood because problems in the blood effect the entire body.   In Leviticus 17:11 the Lord told His people  “For the life of the flesh is in the blood and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

Since we need oxygen to live I wondered how oxygen gets into the blood?  A quick Google search showed me something I had forgotten about the human body.  It is the blood that carries oxygen.  “You breathe air through your nose and mouth.  It makes its way into your lungs and dissolves.  Oxygen clings to the blood cells and then is in the blood.”

When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden decay and death entered the blood stream of the human race.  It was God that pronounced the curse upon His fallen creation and it was He who ultimately bore the curse at Calvary for the entire world.  Mankind needed a blood transfusion.  Only sinless blood could redeem us.    From the beginning the great God of glory had a plan and a promise.

Since God is an invisible Spirit, having neither flesh nor blood, there was only one plan that would work.  He would have to step out of the portals of heaven and become one of us, taking upon Himself the form of man with flesh and blood.   How is such a thing possible?  No other human being ever born or ever will be (He is Alpha and Omega) can claim to be both God and man.

“And  she (Mary) shall bring forth a son and thou shalt call his name JESUS (Jehoshua, Yeshua)  for he shall save his people from their sins.”  Matthew 1:17

The blood of an individual is determined through the Father, not the mother.  Only God abides in sinless perfection.  As Brother Flowers reminded us today, “Jesus is not of Adam’s race.  His blood came from a heavenly source.”

“…..without the shedding of blood there is no remission (of sin).”   Hebrews 9:22

Oh what a price our God paid.   In ancient times animals were sacrificed on the brazen altar because their blood was not considered to be with sin, but this was only a temporary solution to an eternal problem.   “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot; who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.  Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.”   I Peter 1:18-21

Jesus Christ became the perfect spotless Lamb sacrifice.   He does not have to be sacrificed again and again.  “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” Hebrews 9:12

In conclusion, how do we get His blood applied to our lives?   Most of professing Christianity today says  “just believe in Jesus and accept Him as your personal Lord and Savior and the blood is applied.”   However, my friend, it is important to fulfill God’s plan His way and not ours.   John the Baptist preached a baptism of repentance for remission of sins but he was only a forerunner of the One who would baptize with the Holy Ghost and fire.

Repentance is a turning from the Adamic earthly nature to the heavenly Jesus nature.  In the beginning of this study we learned that in the natural oxygen is carried through the blood.  We must have God’s Spirit (pneuma, breath) of holiness and grace abiding within to be saved.    When we  breathe in God’s Spirit (the Holy Ghost) this heavenly oxygen (for He is our very life)  supernaturally mingles with our blood and purifies us from all sin.   Our body becomes His temple.   The doctor’s may still say our cholesterol levels are high, but in the heavenly realm something has taken place when we receive the Holy Ghost.

When we are immersed in water in the name of Jesus for remission of repented sin,  the blood is applied and our sins are washed away.   “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death?”  Romans 6:3

Amazing grace!  No greater love hath a man than to lay down his life for his friends.
