It seems to be easier for masses to mindlessly follow a charismatic leader than for one individual to “stand out” from the crowd and follow the Lord Jesus. There are those among us that follow the beat of a different drummer. The drum roll of the world sounds discordant and monotonous to those who are used to the heavenly sound. Many choose the easy road, the broad way or the highway, that the Bible says leads to destruction. It takes courage and determination to get off that fast paced highway to follow a different path whose destination is eternal and above not beneath. Have you ever noticed how people always want to exceed the speed limit and race like flaming torches on the highways of this world. The by-ways or country paths seem to go at a slower pace and there are fewer accidents. God is not in a rush. He doesn’t have to be because He is God alone and in control of this entire universe. That is why only Jesus has the power to say “Come unto me all ye who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.”
Why is it so hard for many to follow Christ? I believe the major roadblock to this changed life is the human “ego”. Self doesn’t want to have to look squarely at oneself without excuse and say “I am wrong”, “I have sinned”, “This way is getting me more lost than I was when I started down this road.” The devil takes you further than you wanted to go and you pay a price that is greater than you ever expected. But the Lord is a gracious God, full of compassion and mercy and He knows our plight. That is why He came from glory and became a man to pay the full penalty for our mess. He came to destroy the works of the devil because if the powers of hell are not broken off of someone they cannot escape the prison house Satan has devised to keep his captives forever chained to him and his eternal fire.
This week Emmanuel Pentecostal has been on a fast. For me it was a fast with purpose as there are loved ones I want to see free from the powers of darkness. “Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke.” Isaiah 58:6 It is not enough to fast and pray with no purpose in mind – we must seek the face of God specifically for individuals who may be too weak to pray for themselves. Those of us who have been filled with the Holy Ghost of God have this power within us. We have the power to lighten heavy loads from people and set afflicted and oppressed people free in Jesus name. We have the power to break every heavy yoke that Satan has placed on his captives. What a mighty God we serve.
No one should seek power for its own sake. “Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.” Psalm 115:1
Psalm 116:6 “I was brought low and He helped me.”
Psalm 116:8 “For thou has delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears and my feet from falling.”
Psalm 118:5 “I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place.”
“Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.”Isaiah 52:2
